An additional health establishment is the victim of a cyberattack! This time, it is the hospital in Cahors, in the Lot. This attack seems less important than the one that hit the Corbeil-Essonnes hospital center about a month ago.
This attack took place during the week of September 12, 2022, in the evening, and it touched the administrative services of the hospital. Following this attack, the management launched its incident response plan, in particular by cutting off Internet access and access to messaging from the outside. This is what Michel Fabrejon, IT systems security manager for the Groupement Hospitalier de Territoire du Lot, told France 3: “We have cut internet throughout the hospital, keeping sensitive accesses such as external biology laboratories and the public treasury to pay suppliers and pay salaries.
According to the information communicated by the hospital, the internal IT department is not alone on the spot: “The computer service assisted by ANSSI (the National Agency for Information Systems Security) and CERT Cyberveille is doing everything possible to return to normal as soon as possible.
Patient data is not affected by this cyberattack, which is good news. This is explained by the fact that patient data is stored at a host which is certified to store health-related data. The origin of the attack is not specified, nor even if it is ransomware or another malicious strain.
This new attack only reinforces the idea that it is essential to offer more important and adapted means to French hospitals so that they reinforce security. Recently, the government announced thatan additional 20 million euros was allocated to ANSSI with the aim of improving the security of the information system in French healthcare establishments.
