Another shot from the LockBit group! LockBit cybercriminals claim that they managed to compromise the infrastructure of the German company Continental. Here’s what we know so far.
As a reminder, Continental is a multinational known for its tires and which still employs more than 190,000 people worldwide.
During this computer attack, LockBit allegedly exfiltrated data from Continental’s servers according to the LockBit site dedicated to data leaks! From now on, hackers threaten to release them in less than 24 hours : this Friday at 4:45 p.m. French time, to be precise. There could be a ransom demand behind it all… However, we do not know the nature of this data nor do we know when this computer attack took place.
On his side, Continental has not issued an official press release regarding a possible computer attack. Despite everything, as noted by our colleagues from the Bleeping Computer site, Continental posted a press release on August 24, 2022 to evoke a cyberattack: “In a cyberattack, attackers infiltrated parts of Continental’s IT systems. The company detected the attack in early August and then avoided it.“- A statement in which we can also read: “Immediately upon discovery of the attack, Continental took all necessary defensive measures to restore the integrity of its computer systems.“
Is the data that LockBit is about to put online linked to this August attack? Or is it a new cyberattack? Good question… To find out more, it is better to wait for Continental to communicate on this subject. We can imagine that on the side of Continental, investigations are underway!
A few days ago, the LockBit group announced new attacks, in particular against Thales and EXCO.
