What is Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central?

In the Microsoft ecosystem, there are services for businesses, schools and individuals that meet a multitude of needs. For enterprises, certain tools and services are more suitable for certain sizes of enterprises. If we take the example of Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central, it is an ERP offered by Microsoft for small and medium-sized businesses. In this article, I present this solution proposed by Microsoft.

What is an ERP?

Before talking about the solution Microsoft Business Central, let’s talk about an ERP as such. An ERP (for Enterprise Resource Planning) is a management software package that allows you to manage all of a company’s processes, covering the needs of the different departments. In other words, this software package will allow the company to manage its daily activities, whether for risk management, accounting, purchasing management, project planning or human resources. It’s an all-in-one solution.

Although there are specialized ERPs depending on the fields of activity and the needs of companies, you will have understood it, theERP is a central element of a company, but also of an information system. When it is in place, it must imperatively allow the company to be more efficient.

As with many other systems, an ERP can be set up locally on the company’s servers, or directly in the Cloud in “SaaS” mode: that is to say software accessible in the form of a subscription, where the company does not have to worry about hosting, security, etc.

Microsoft responds to these different needs through a suite of applications grouped under the name “Dynamics 365“split into several services, including Business Central. If we look at the Dynamics 365 site, “Business Central“goes directly under”Small and medium enterprises“. For those who know, this is the evolution of Microsoft Dynamics NAV.

This solution also aims to break the myth of ERP reserved only for large companies… First advantage from a technical point of view is thatit is hosted in the Cloud (even if a local deployment is possible) : no need for a large initial investment (in servers, for example). Indeed, a support service for the implementation and training of employees will allow a good start.

Accessible both fromcomputer, smartphone or tabletMicrosoft Business Central can accompany you everywhere, giving you access to the management of your business: sales tracking (and projection), financial visibility, monthly closing management, fixed assets, accounts payable, automatic workflows, warehouse management, etc… The list of features is long, and you just have to visit the Microsoft site to be convinced. However, we can summarize in 6 axes:

  • Financial management
  • Project management
  • Operations management
  • Reporting and financial analyzes
  • supply chain management
  • Commercial management and services (integration of “CRM” functions)

Beyond its pure functionalities, Business Central takes advantage of all the strength of Microsoft in terms ofdata analysis and reporting thanks to machine learning and the excellent Power BI… As you can imagine, Microsoft offers users the connection with other applications such as Power BI, but also Word, Outlook or Excel. In the end, this eliminates the problem of silos.
